Cochise County
Cycling Classic
A few of us rode the Cochise Classic this past Saturday in the wind,
o.k., hideous wind, and occasional rain shower, with George Varhola
finishing 6th overall and three of us finishing in the top 15 with
platinum times. George put in an absolutely amazing ride going off on
a 2-person break-a-way prior to the climb's near Bisbee and was able
to stay away for the whole 92 miles! About 3 or 4 miles before Davis
road 2 Aggress riders, Brent Barber (overall winner) and Brian Ten
Eyck along with Peter Brown went out on a break and bridged up to
George. George then continued on with the 3 newcomers and finished
6th! Congrats George on a fantastic ride in absolutely horrible
conditions.
As for those of us in the second group, Andy Scott, Pat Mause, Marvin
Makus and Rick Hutton, we sat in for awhile allowing the break to
develop so George could continue to stay away. Once Andy determined
that the break was far enough ahead to not get caught he put down some
phenomenal pulls to help get Pat a Platinum time. There is no doubt
that all of us in the group would not have finished as well as we did
with out Andy's hard work! Thank you Andy for the motivation and
leadership on the ride!
Hat's off to George for staying away in terrible conditions and to
Andy for awesome work! |
